Description
The 73Dipstick Oil Dipstick Repair Adapter Kit 110448 is a permanent repair for the leaking oil pan in your Ford 7.3L Powerstroke or Navistar 7.3L T444E. The leak at the dipstick flange is a well-known problem with the 7.3 Powerstroke engine. The leak is caused by the factory O-ring mounted inside the adapter expanding over time due to exposure to oil. As the seal swells, it deforms the adapter's inner component, causing the outer nut to become loose.
Some people will attempt to temporarily stop the leak by tightening the nut, but this will only cause the inner piece to become more deformed. Removing the pan and replacing the entire unit from the inside of the pan is the factory repair for this leak. This is an expensive and time-consuming repair. A few aftermarket solutions are available that are intended to fix this from the pan's exterior. There is a weld-in bung option, but it requires pipe fitter expertise to weld different materials together.
There is a bolt-on fix that necessitates dropping the internal part inside the pan and leaving it loose. The seal is moved to the pan's exterior and the internal component is reused in this kit. Nothing is left abandoned inside the pan and no welding. This kit saves time and money compared to other options available for repairing this problem.
Driving Reason For Design
73Dipstick sought to come up with a cost-effective solution for this problem to help out the diesel community. The Powerstroke motor is such a tough, reliable engine that 73Dipstick didn't want their customers to get rid of their trucks because of the cost of fixing an oil leak.
A Long-Term Solution
The stock oil pan usually starts to leak at around 150,000 miles. Even when you spend the money to replace it using Ford's parts and method, it will probably fail at least once more during the truck's life. 73Dipstick has tested vehicles with over 200,000 miles since this repair was done and still no leaks have occurred, meaning this repair outlasts the original design.

Note
It has been determined that this kit only works with Ford or Dorman internal dipstick flanges. If the internal part has ever been replaced with a part not made by these two manufacturers, this kit may not work. Also, if the dipstick nut has ever been over tightened, and the threads are pulled, you could still end up with a small leak.
